Ultrasound-guided injections have seen increasing use in recent years within musculoskeletal and orthopaedic pain disorders due to their ability to provide safe access to target tissues, with increased efficacy and reduced discomfort for patients during the procedure.
As a physiotherapist by background who has undergone further training in musculoskeletal ultrasound, along with previous training in injection therapy and prescribing, I am able to combine these skills to offer a comprehensive range of ultrasound-guided injections for peripheral joint, ligament, and tendon pain disorders throughout the body.
A musculoskeletal ultrasound scan for diagnosing the precise problem will be conducted along with a physical examination prior to any ultrasound-guided injection. In general, and certainly historically, we have used corticosteroid medication to treat inflammation in joint and tendon pain, and we still aim to do so for conditions and symptoms characteristic of high levels of inflammation.

However, in recent years we have also started to inject substances such as hyaluronic acid, in the form of injectable hyaluronic acid, into joints and tendon sheaths, as there is evidence that repeat steroid injections may induce accelerated degenerative changes to elements of joints and tendons.

Although tendon pain can be a difficult problem to treat, in cases which have not responded to physiotherapy I am able to offer high-volume injections for mid-portion tendinopathy and prolotherapy-type procedures for insertional tendinopathy.
